Colman’s Mustard Brings on the Heat During National Grilling Month

Add the Missing Ingredient to Your Summertime BBQs

Long summer days, warm evening breezes, and fun gatherings with friends and family are upon us with National Grilling Month approaching in July. Endless, sun-filled days provide the perfect setting in which to savor every ounce of deliciousness that summer has to offer. Fortunately for anyone from the novice cook to the master chef Colman’s mustard is a tried-and-true side-kick for firing up some zest and putting a refreshing zing in otherwise conventionally-grilled foods.

Colman’s exudes a fiery, layered taste through its rare combination of brown mustard seeds (Brassica Juncea) and white mustard seeds (Sinapas Alba), and has been kicking off parties with quality flavor since its renowned inception in 1814 from the countryside of Norwich, England. Boundless fields of yellow, flowering mustard seed produce the ideal source for a pure, cholesterol-free, gluten-free, and kosher-made spice to liven up meals around the world.

There’s no secret in how to use Colman’s; you can slather your entrée and cook it on the grill, or just enrich the variety of flavors within your meal by using Colman’s mustard as a fiery condiment for dipping. Regardless of what part of your cuisine you choose to enhance with a revitalizing boost in flavor and spice, Colman’s is sure to add just the extra edge your taste buds did not even know they were craving.

An essential instrument in the art of cooking versatility, Colman’s comes in two forms: the classic prepared mustard and all-purpose dry mustard powder. Both prepared and powdered Colman’s add an extra oomph to marinades, dips, and sauces, like the one and only Mustard Barbecue Glaze:

Mustard BBQ Glaze
Tasty and full-bodied, this scrumptious glaze provides the finishing touch to grilled masterpieces, such as pork or lamb chops.

½ cup of beef or chicken stock
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons Colman’s Dry Mustard Powder
2 tablespoons tomato puree
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons freshly grated orange peel
2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger root
1 garlic clove, pressed

Yield 3/4 cup
Heat Scale: Medium Hot

In the true spirit of barbecue, this savory sauce is heartily delicious and yet incredibly easy to make. Simply whisk all of the ingredients together in a small bowl, and -- voila! -- your summertime feast is ready to cross the threshold to taste bud paradise. Apply the Mustard BBQ glaze over pork, beef, chicken, fish or tofu on the grill or in a barbecue smoker.

Have a safe summer, and don't forget to spice it up with Colman's Mustard.

A Merry Christmas from Colman's!

Few food brands have a history as rich as Colman’s (www.colmansusa.com).  Our company’s English Mustard was first produced in Norfolk, Britain, back in 1814 and quickly became a staple on British dinner tables. In 1866, founder Jeremiah Colman was appointed mustard-maker to Queen Victoria and, just 14 years later, the high-quality product—in its distinctive red and yellow tin—was introduced to the United States, where it’s been at the heart of American dinnertime since. Naturally, it’s also become America’s go-to condiment for family Christmas feasts adding its legendary kick to most any holiday entrée.

From the very beginning, we've harvested only the finest mustard seeds.  Today Colman’s is still grown and milled in Norfolk, remaining true to the time-honored traditions that have turned this product into the spicy mustard of choice, worldwide, for nearly 200 years. As a matter of fact, every minute of the day, 45 jars of Colman’s Mustard are purchased in different locations across the globe.

Colman’s English Mustard provides a pure, spicy compliment to a wide variety of holiday staples, from ham and turkey to soups, stews and salad dressings. For example, use Colman’s English Mustard when you prepare your baked holiday ham and sweet potato mustard mash (see cooking instructions below). Or take a peek at

Pass the Mustard, Please!

Colman’s makes getting in shape easier than ever with gourmet condiments.

Fitness fans looking to build muscle and get lean in the coming year should reach for the mustard. New research from the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) reveals that a steroid found naturally in the mustard plant increases muscle mass along with the number and size of muscle fibers.[1] And here’s another health perk: mustard, and especially Colman’s globally trusted brand (www.ColmansUSA.com), can be infused into any type of cuisine to help you cut calories without having to skimp on flavor.

Colman’s Mustard gives a healthy kick to any meal, providing a slow-building heat that is not overpowering and adds unique layers of flavor to everything from Asian dishes to American favorites. Household chefs and professionals agree that the fresh and zesty taste integrates seamlessly into dressings, soups, stews, marinades, sauces and desserts, without adding to one’s waistline— the mustard contains a mere 10 calories per teaspoon, plus, all varieties are free of artificial dyes or preservatives.

According to CNN Health’s 10 Spices and Herbs That Aid Weight Loss, research shows that as little as one teaspoon of mustard can raise metabolic rates by nearly 25%.[2] With such a versatile mustard as Colman’s, adding just one teaspoon can be as simple as preparing a spicier salad dressing or creating a flavorful honey mustard dipping sauce for fresh vegetables or lean meats.

Colman’s products are made from a blend of
brown (Brassica Juncea) and white (Sinapis Alba) mustard seeds that are grown locally in Norwich, England and processed at the Carrow factory on the outskirts of Norwich, England. Since its inception nearly 200 years ago, Colman’s has harvested only the finest mustard seeds with a single-minded focus on the tradition that has made it the spicy mustard in the world’s most discerning households and commercial kitchens. Fact is, every minute of the day, 45 jars of Colman’s Mustard are purchased all over the world.

This year, in setting out on the path to reach those fitness resolutions, take Colman’s Mustard along for the ride. When using this pure, fiery and complex condiment in recipes and dishes
, find savoring a whole new world of flavors without feeling an ounce of guilt. Now that’s something to toast.
